Mileage log Excel template for 2026
A 2026 mileage log Excel template has to respect the mid-year IRS business rate change: one rate through June 30, a higher rate from July 1. A single flat rate for the whole year will misstate your deduction estimate if you drive after the split.
Why 2026 templates need date-aware rates
- Jan 1 – Jun 30, 2026: business standard mileage rate 72.5¢ per mile
- Jul 1 – Dec 31, 2026: business rate 76¢ per mile
- Each trip row needs a date so the sheet can pick the correct cents
- Purpose, miles, and optional odometer notes still matter for records
Rates cited for record-keeping education — confirm current IRS figures on IRS.gov. Not tax advice.
Columns a 2026 mileage log should have
- Date — drives which rate applies
- Business purpose — client, job, or trip reason
- Miles — business miles for that trip
- Rate (auto) — gray formula from the date
- Amount (auto) — miles × rate
- Optional: start/end odometer, from/to locations
Yellow = date, purpose, miles.
Gray = rate and dollar estimate.
